Hour of Code

Students from Grades 3 to 9 have been involved in the national Hour of Code this afternoon. Activities from https://code.org/learn have students captivated by activities provided. Themes from Mincraft to Frozen have been developed to help young people problem solve and understand coding and associated skills.

Mr Drew Roberts has masterminded the operation and he has been support by all associated staff. Teachers and Aides are busy helping with the set up and management of so many on the network all at once.

It is great to see so many students involved and the excitment of students to want to share what they have discovered with  me as I come and go from the classrooms. Don't forget to ask about this when your children get home this afternoon.

Year 9 & 10 Visit to Defence Force Expo

Hi all,

It's been a while in between blogs so I apologise! Although the year has flown, I wanted to share with you a 'highlight' from the end of Term 3 (better late than never!)...

On September 18th, year 9 & 10 students attended the Defence Force Expo in Hobart. They got to spend the morning discussing potential study and career prospects with Defence Force employees as well as get a hands-on experience of flying a jet (simulator) and sitting in a 'tank'.

We got to watch the Royal Navy Band perform and returned back to school with lots and lots of goodies!

It was a beneficial visit for everyone and a great opportunity to ask questions and explore what a career with the Air Force, Army or Navy could offer to some of our students.

It's always a blessed and fun day out with these students (and of course Mr Huber and Mr Rushton)!

PAC Progress

Good afternoon Everyone,

It is wonderful see the continued progress of our Performing Arts Centre. The bricks are going up and it won't be long before the cladding for the top section will be put over the plywood sheeting that is evident at the moment. Plaster work is well underway inside.

Not long before writing this, I visited our 3/4 class. They were doing some work with our Grade Nines which was a joy to see.

Have a great day.

Drawing with the NXT

The Grade 7 and 8 boys had an excellent lesson today learning how to program their robots to draw shapes.

Once shapes like triangles and octagons had been mastered, students turned up their creativity with some clever programming and multiple colouring pens.

Watch this short movie to view some of the results.

Postpone Athletics Carnival

Good morning everyone,

Just a note to inform you we have postponed the Athletics Carnival, We will advise you when a new date has been set. We are sorry for any inconvenience that may cause.

The wind particularly is making conditions on the oval uncomformtable to say the least as is the wet ground and potentially wet everything.

Sincerely

Scott Winkler

Week 1 of Term 4

Week 1 is done. It was great to see the young people swimming this morning at the Grade 3 to 6 Swimming Carnival. We'll try and get photos out to celebrate what our students have accomplished.

The Performing Arts Centre is progressing well. I'm sure it got bigger once the wrapping went on. The colourful exterior is coming together. We had prfoessional advice of the colours to have a facility that is as modern as possible. It is looking tremendous.

I am looking forward to the competition at the Whole School Athletics Carnival next Wednesday.

End of Term 3 and the PAC

We have made it to the end of term 3! A two week break will certainly be good for everyone. My prayer is that all students and staff will have a safe and restful break and come back recharged for the final quarter of the year.
The Performing Arts Centre has been progressing very well. It is great to see the work on the roof started and the timber work being filled in.
Emmanuel Christian School
Have a wonderful holiday!

Grade 9/10 Finance Day

On Thursday the 24th of September, our Grade 9 and 10 students participated in a number of activities to help them with personal finance and budgeting. Anna, Miss Williams, Mr Rushton and Mr Huber organised activities to encourage students to be wise with money and equip them with skills to be wise stewards with their finaces.

This was a good way to finish term 3.

Futsal

Friday night futsal has begun with 5 Emmanuel teams competing.  A big thank you to Marietta Samson-Gower and Luke Roberts for organising the teams.  Mixed results were recorded in the first round of games but all children left with smile on their faces.  Rumour has it, one particular girl was so excited she slept in her futsal uniform.....

Roof Trusses Going Up

The PAC has a different look with the roof trusses on in sections.

It was lovely to share what is going on with our building project with our Association Gold Members on Tuesday. I will add at this time, too, our students did a fantastic job helping at the Gold Members High Tea. I had a lot of positvie comments about the quality of Emmanuel students. I know that. You know that. Now more people know how great our students are.

Prep/One visit the Patrick Hall Exhibition at the TMAG

A very special time was had today when the Prep/One class had the opportunity to visit the Museum to view the artworks of Tasmanian artist, Patrick Hall. This exhibition was incredible, and all the students are to be commended for their outstanding behaviour. Settled, polite and engaged for the duration of the one hour tour, the children listened carefully to our guide, Rebecca Tudor, and immersed themselves in the ideas presented by Patrick in his work. With his amazing attention to detail, and ability to reuse old redundant objects such as vinyl records, old cabinets and metal objects, the children thoroughly enjoyed their visit. A number of the Museum staff also commented on their excellent behaviour. A special thank you to our guides, Rebecca and Penny, and also to the parents and grandparents who accompanied us on our visit.

This exhibition continues until the 30th August and is highly recommended.

Below is a selection of photos from our morning, including our walk around the docks, enjoying the beautiful winter weather!
