Visit to Risdon Brook Dam

On Tuesday 31st of March, students from Prep to Grade 6 visited Risdon Brook Dam.
We were very blessed with amazing weather (after much prayer for sunshine!) which meant students could go for a walk around the dam as well as play and eat lunch together.

After arriving and setting up; students and teachers set off on their walk around the dam. Some students were very excited to see different animals in their natural habitats, whilst others happily collected pine cones along the way!

After the walk (and several head-counts), the students were able to have their lunch and a play together before boarding the bus and returning to school.

Overall, it was a wonderful day spent together. Students represented the school in such a positive way; following instructions, asking questions and helping one another around the dam. Every teacher should be proud of their class' behaviour and participation, I am especially proud of my 3/4s!

God was truly with us throughout the day as we played, laughed and spent quality time with one another as a whole Primary School.

Year 10 Health

To be a successful leader is no longer enough. Tangible success may display the ability to accomplish, but even Hitler had the ability to get the job done. We require the kind of leaders people pray for - leaders like Mother Teresa – leaders who value the intangible health of a community. The swing between a Hitler and a Mother Teresa is a question of space. White Space enlarges the scope of truth bringing freedom; it engages the voice of wisdom, and it draws on the synergy of collective intelligence to create the sort of leadership worth following. -Anna Gregory (White Space Synopsis).

Since the start of Term 1, Year 10 students have been participants in a course named "White Space". It is a 9-week course written and facilitated by our Chaplain Anna Gregory, and it is designed to transfer value to students by helping them recognise and develop their leadership skills. White Space works in partnership with schools to establish and provide capacity to emerging leaders; unearthing their strength, engaging their voice, and drawing on the synergy of collective intelligence (Gregory, 2010).

Anna has been facilitating this dynamic course since 2010. She is both engaging and diligent in her delivery to students, and I have been very privileged to witness this course (in action) throughout the past 9 weeks. The White Space program is designed to encourage our young people to learn about themselves as individuals, identify what they can offer as leaders and then put it into practice.
The course relies on student participation and sharing of ideas to enhance its meaningfulness. The Year 10s were very receptive and mature in their approach, and were willing participants which made the course even more enjoyable!

Below is the intensive 9-week schedule as taught throughout Term 1:
Part 1: Unearthing truth

Week 1: Authenticity
Week 2: Freedom
Week 3: Creativity
Part 2: Finding wisdom's voice
Week 4: Resilience
Week 5: Capacity
Week 6: Choices
Part 3: Building Collective Intelligence
Week 7: Strength
Week 8: Love

Week 9: Energy

Anna has been hosting this inspiring course for Year 10 students at Emmanuel (and other Tasmanian schools) for the past few years and the feedback is consistently positive.

"White Space was emotionally confronting at times. It was definitely challenging." -Michael

"The course inspires and challenges who you are. It allows you to discover new ways of seeing yourself, and others." -Corey

Great work on successfully completing the course Year 10, you should be very proud of your efforts; Anna and I certainly are!

You will receive your certificate at the start of Term 2!

I also want to take this 'blog' time to thank Anna for her dedication and faithfulness to the class and this course. Anna's attitude, enthusiasm & insight instills and develops irreplaceable life-long leadership skills for the leaders of tomorrow (our students).

Thank you and God Bless,
Kate Williams

What a lovely afternoon this has been. I went to visit some of our classes. Primary are out on their excursion so the place is pretty quiet.

Art was in full swing - please come in and see some of the new work. Mrs Bowen has changed the display in the office area.

Robotics was also well uderway when I arrived. Good work Mr D Roberts.

Have a wonderful afternoon.

Miss Williams- A brief introduction

Mr Winkler has suggested I briefly introduce myself to you as one of his 'blogger' teachers. I'll be as brief as possible...

I am better known as "Miss Williams" at Emmanuel Christian School. This is my third year teaching at the school, and I am very blessed to be working in both the Primary and Secondary schools.

I am the resident Japanese 'LOTE' (Languages Other Than English) teacher for students in Grades 3 to 10. I also teach in Grade 5/6 three days a fortnight; teach Year 7 Drama & Health; Year 9 SOSE; and Year 10 Health and SOSE. I am almost as busy I sound!!

The aim of my blogs is to inform the school community, families and wider community of the wonderful learning opportunities students are offered, as well as share in the achievements and successes of my students from various year groups.

God is truly with us at Emmanuel, and I love being a part of this community that puts Christ at the centre of everything. I look forward to sharing the good news of student learning with you over the coming year.

Shalom,
Kate

Saturday's Working Bee

Project 1: Finally - an organised
car park!
We had a great working bee on Saturday. It was wonderful to see the number of people who came out to bless Emmanuel Christian School.

There were 6 projects on the go. Project 1 was the yellow dots to delineate the carpark spaces. Project 2 was the Vanuatu fund raising car wash. Project 3 was the huge job of tidying up the turning circle. It looks great! Project 4 was Mr L Roberts pruning in the court yard with his friends. Project 5 was Morning Tea - definitly a favourite project. Project 6 was just me sorting papers in my office - some went back to the late 1990s.

Project 2: The Busy Car Wash

Project 4: Mr Roberts and Friends
Project 3: Our tidy turning circle

Project 5: Morning Tea! Yum!
I look forward to seeing even more of you at the next working bee.

Thanks to Phil Collins and the School Council for orgsanising the event. Thanks Dave, you are a blessing to this school.
